Barbie is honoring female friendships with new doll duos—and they’re clearly for the kidults. As a part of Barbie’s Role Model series, the brand is honoring gymnasts Jordan Chiles and Jade Carey, Brazilian body positivity influencers Paola Antonini and Kelen Ferreira, actresses Hannah Waddingham and Juno Temple, and Tennis Champions Evonne Goolagong Cawley and Ash Barty. And while the new Barbies aren’t for sale, the social media push is timed for International Women’s Day on March 8. The duos can certainly be role models for Barbie’s youngest market, but it’s clear this is just as much for their large adult market, who know and relate to these figures well. And with Gen Z and Millennials craving nostalgic connections to their childhoods according to YPulse’s Toys and Play report, this move from Barbie taps into that emotional element. (NBC News)
