A Jellycat pop-up diner in New York is getting tons of adult visitors. The plushie toy brand has been steadily gaining adult consumer attention, and the attendance at its recent pop-up experience in NYC’s FAO Schwarz was a testament to how large its popularity has grown. The “diner” doesn’t serve any actual food, but rather stuffed versions of breakfast and lunch foods with little smiling faces, which the staff pretend to cook before checking out. (Some of the staff have even gone viral in their own right.) Young adults and Millennials are traveling across states and even coming from other countries to get the exclusive plushies—which are certainly more adult prices, with the most popular stack of pancakes “Fran” running $35. Some visitors are even planning to head for European pop-ups next, in search of the exclusive plushies for those locations, because Jellycat collecting is no joke to young consumers. (NYMag)
