YouTubers are rebranding with video podcasts. YPulse predicted in 2024 that podcasts would be the franchises to watch, as they released merch, tours, and membership-exclusive benefits that young viewers buy into. And because so many big-name influencers are making podcasts with video, not just audio, they’re functioning as Gen Z’s interview talk shows. In fact, YouTube finds “viewers watched over 400 million hours of podcasts monthly on living room devices.” This style also gives creators with long careers a chance to reset their image with more authentic conversations, like LaurDIY maturing away from craft content through a podcast on marriage or Tana Mongeau and Trisha Paytas making themselves relatable after scandals. They’re also hugely profitable through paywalled content, live streams or shows, and give more time for ads. (Business Insider)
