Pinterest’s CEO is supporting “phone-free schools.” We know that Gen Z and Millennial parents are concerned about the risks of their children having internet access younger than they ever could have, despite trying to monitor their usage. But one place that’s really trying to crack down on device time is schools, and tons of parents including Pinterest chief executive Bill Ready are standing behind new laws to make it happen. Already, Pinterest has “one of the industry’s strongest privacy default settings for younger teens,” as many platforms have created stricter teen settings to align with laws in Europe that could pick up in the U.S. as well. And while Pinterest itself doesn’t ban young users during school hours, it is “testing a new product feature that prompts minors to reconsider using the app during school hours,” in support of phone-free classrooms.
