In light of the ban, Rednote’s Chinese user base is (so far) welcoming the surge of new American users. The app has already become what some are calling a platform for cultural exchange “reminiscent of the early internet’s open forums.” Some Americans are learning Mandarin (even Duolingo has seen a surge of lessons), while Chinese users are asking for help with their English homework, and others are sharing memes to communicate with translated slang. According to Coollabs, a Chinese science and tech blog, both countries have encouraged more cultural exchanges, making Rednote a sort of digital bridge between the U.S. and China. (Semafor)
