Substack is launching a $25K “TikTok Liberation Prize” aimed at helping creators transition their audiences to newsletters. Though it might seem a little counterintuitive to ask for a new TikTok trend, Substack is offering a prize to the creator whose video sparks a trend that encourages others to invite their followers to Substack. Unlike traditional contests that focus on likes and views, the winner will be chosen based on the number of other creators they inspire to participate in the trend. In addition to the cash prize, the winner will also have the opportunity to work as a Creative Advisor for Substack. (Talk about finding a new influencer job post-TikTok!) Recognizing the vital role of content creators, Substack wants to promote their site as one where creators can connect with audiences similarly to TikTok through live streaming, videos, and podcasts, not just writing.
