U.S. TikTok users are boosting movement to Rednote, another Chinese-owned social platform.

Jan 13 2025

U.S. TikTok users are boosting movement to Rednote, another Chinese-owned social platform. As the days tick down to a potential TikTok ban, users are looking for where they’ll go next—because many want something altogether new, not the other platforms they already use. Now at No. 1 most-downloaded in the Apple App Store, Rednote looks like a contender. Also called “xiaohongshu” or “little red book,” the app has actually been around since 2013 and has a Pinterest and Instagram-esque layout for visual content. It was initially focused on product reviews and e-commerce but has evolved to a full-blown social platform in China. On TikTok, users are now promoting the move to Rednote even though the content is still primarily in Mandarin. In fact, many are joking that they like this option even more because a dominant social platform being based in China is exactly what the U.S. government is looking to avoid by banning TikTok.
