Many teens, and even tweens, are pursuing content creation for their career instead of traditional jobs. Though older generations may still be catching up, teens often have all the skills to create content and engage in social commerce, making it intuitive for them to earn money from content on makeup, hobbies, gaming, and more. In turn, a survey found that one in three 12-18-year-olds in the U.S. have been approached by brands, and 42% earn money online, with some making over $1K from sponsorships in 2024. Despite a somewhat impending TikTok ban and worries regarding influencers’ working conditions continue, brands are enthusiastic about partnering with even the youngest niche creators to connect with their audiences.
