Young gens want to take a “microretirement.” This trend—a small re-naming of the similar “mini retirement” trend we saw last year—refers to Millennials and even Gen Z taking an “adult gap year” off work to travel and experience life instead of waiting until typical retirement age. Many people on social media who have taken this break report how great it’s been, with one creator saying, “I’ve never felt healthier, I’ve never felt more rested, it’s been amazing.” And as Millennials are taking on more leadership positions, there’s increasing awareness of the importance of allowing younger employees to take time to recharge.
