Young adults today are less interested in drinking than previous gens. According to Gallup, 62% of adults under 35-year-olds drink alcohol, which is a drop of -10pts since 2003. And while that’s still a strong majority, this notable decrease is tied to increased marijuana use, the rise of sober-curious lifestyles, and new ways of socializing. Sober-curiosity, or even full sobriety, has become normal to the younger gens as trends like “Dry January” become mainstream and inspire longer stints without drinking year-round. This shifting attitudes toward alcohol has opened the market for sober bars opening across the U.S., providing social spaces where young people can hang out without drinking. Interestingly, older gens like Boomers are drinking more than ever, which might also be encouraging younger people to rethink their own drinking habits. (TIME)
