TikTok is sparking nostalgia with the new “Google Earth Trend.” This trend encourages users to search for their childhood homes on Google Earth or Google Maps. By checking when the photos were taken, they reminisce about old memories and many find the experience quite emotional. The trend began when @bladehall shared a video showing a screenshot from Google Earth of himself washing his car. He captioned it, “And somewhere on Google Earth, I’m still 17. It’s summer, I’m back in my childhood neighborhood. Zero worries.” This video has since gained over 870K views, inspiring many others to join in. Most videos following the trend use the same song, “Springsteen” by Eric Church, which now features over 35K videos under its sound. As with so many other Gen Z trends, nostalgia is a huge part of this viral moment, especially as people find images of loved ones who have passed away, bringing back cherished memories.
