Are Gen Z workers focusing more on side hustles than their full-time jobs? A recent Intuit survey found that more than half of 18-35-year-olds have either started or plan to start a side hustle for extra money, with 65% who already have one planning to continue working on it. About 44% of those with side hustles feel they don’t have enough time in the day, which sometimes leads them to work on their side gigs during regular job hours, also leading to burnout. And for many, side hustles are successful, with respondents reporting an average income of over $10K a year after three to six months, and only 3% reporting failures. Whether young people are pursuing side hustles for extra income or as a hobby, experts suggest the main reasons include poor full-time work compensation, unsupportive management, and feeling like they’re not appreciated at work.
