Video –cores are back, unfortunately with #HopelessCore. Last year, YPulse explained how –cores had gone meta on TikTok: -cores once mostly referenced simple aesthetics but came to describe a video editing style that collects visuals with a central meaning. At that time, the #HopeCore trend acted as reassurance about the state of the world, in response to the darker, drearier #CoreCore. Now, #HopelessCore is coming full circle with a sarcastic tone. The videos mock motivational content by setting depressing speeches or moments of failure to an inspirational-sounding song and use a bold caption style to emphasize the message—even though it’s bleak. The first video appears to have been posted on November 8, and the hashtag #HopelessCore now has over 3K videos, with top posts racking up millions of views. (Dexerto)
