Speaking of TikTok Shop, it’s becoming serious competition for Amazon. In addition to TikTok formally hiring talent who previously worked at Amazon, independent Amazon sellers are also being encouraged to push their merchandise on TikTok Shop. And there’s no question why they would: EcommerceDB predicts TikTok Shop will sell $50B worth of merchandise this year. Though this pales in comparison to Amazon’s sales (which are closer to a trillion dollars in merchandise yearly), it’s a different approach: TikTok users are encouraged to impulsively buy things as they see them, not just make a search for something they already know they want. Even huge brands like Scrub Daddy are leaning into their TikTok sales, with livestreams too, despite the looming threat of a U.S. shutdown come January. (CNBC)
