Amid Black Friday weekend shopping, Netflix released a documentary on retail waste. Titled Buy Now! The Shopping Conspiracy, the doc taps into something we’ve long said is a big concern for Gen Z: whether the brands they shop from are doing their part for the environment. In its tongue-in-cheek corporate “rule” segments, it claims the key to success is to “waste more,” “lie more,” and “control more,” all so consumers will “buy more.” Former retail industry leaders and sustainability advocates voice the doc—alongside an AI instructor who generates waste visuals—to explain their experiences with product creation and conversations about waste, or the lack thereof. It hit the Netflix top 10 list last week, right next to holiday heart-warmers. (Forbes)
