Kratom, a plant-based supplement popular for its energy-boosting and anxiety-relieving effects, is becoming an unfortunate new addiction.

Nov 18 2024

Kratom, a plant-based supplement popular for its energy-boosting and anxiety-relieving effects, is becoming an unfortunate new addiction. Though awareness of Kratom’s danger is growing in the U.S., many users have no idea of the potential hazards—despite millions of Americans using it. Kratom is often marketed as a way to stop drinking alcohol, though many find it addictive instead—and the FDA has even issued warnings against using Kratom for medical purposes. But in some cases, like the brand Feel Free Classic, there’s allegations of products failing to disclose its in them at all. Nevertheless, some companies continue marketing it positively, and certain online sobriety communities promote the supplement for self-managing opioid withdrawal—even though its effectiveness remains unproven.
