Her fame began thanks to a public vote on her name, in which Moo Deng, translating to “bouncy pork” was the obvious winner—but her spunky personality pictures and tendency to teethe on her keeper has made her even more lovable. And since everyone online has latched onto her—regular animal (and meme) lovers and brands alike—the zoo has launched a 24/7 live stream for anyone who can’t see her IRL to keep tabs. While of course her home zoo has launched merch, she’s also become the inspiration for makeup trends (that wet, glowy flush!) and even a crypto memecoin worth way more than you’d think. But don’t worry, Moo Deng isn’t letting her celebrity go to her head, even though she’s become the face of awareness to protect her species. (NYT)
