California plans to ban social media platforms from showing “addictive feeds” to children by 2027. California is next in plans to protect children from social media feeds. Earlier this year, New York City signed laws to keep “addictive feeds,” those which encourage non-stop scrolling with suggested content, from reaching children without parental consent if enacted. Now in California, Governor Gavin Newsom signed a similar law, which will also prevent social media platforms from sending notifications to minors during school hours and late at night. As health experts warn of the negative implications of social media on the youngest users, proposed solutions range from limiting access to even labeling it an environmental toxin. (Axios)
