Nokia and Mattel are launching a Barbie “dumb phone” aimed at Gen Z. The flip-phone is designed without internet access or social media but is decked out with Barbie-themed aesthetics. Released exclusively in the U.K. for £99, the phone taps into Gen Z’s early 2000s nostalgia (even if they don’t remember it) and their desire to take breaks from smartphones. Few may actually commit to using this flip phone full-time, but given Gen Z’s fondness for social media detoxes, it could be a part-time accessory and mental health tool in one. (Fortune)
