“Slow Shopping” is TikTok’s new trend for more intentional spending. YPulse reported on the recent trend of #UnderConsumptionCore, which had Gen Z showing the ways they reject over consumptive shopping that social media often encourages. Now, it’s a financial trend to put more time between a desire to buy something and the actual purchase, pitched as a remedy to an impulse buy they may later regret. Especially considering a 2023 Credit Karma survey found most Gen Z and Millennials identifying as “emotional spenders,” social shopping has become a habit many use to satiate their “little treat” desire—but the same study found most feel guilty about this tendency. What’s appealing about slow shopping is that it still encourages them to have their “little treats,” but after considering whether it really aligns with their financial priorities. (Pop Sugar)
