Young consumers want to buy all of Target’s $5 decorative birds. While the hype is at a peak, the birds aren’t new: Target launched its bird collection in 2012, starting with holiday-themed birds. But over time, the company expanded the line to include birds for various occasions (including Pride), as well as related items like tiny bird ornaments, advent calendars, and accessories like sleighs for the birds. Fueled by Gen Z’s passion for collecting, interest in the figurines has surged on social media and in Facebook and Reddit groups where fans exchange tips on when the restocks happen. Because inventory is limited and restocks are sporadic, many consumers now rely on resellers or set alarms to ensure they don’t miss out on their favorite birds. (WSJ)
