Temu now has more reguarly returning customers than eBay. With its insanely low prices and ads plastered across social media, this ecommerce newcomer is now stacking up alongside SHEIN for U.S. shoppers making at least a monthly purchase—outpacing eBay, Etsy, and TikTok Shop. And while it doesn’t yet compete with the likes of Walmart or Amazon, a shift in online shopping search is proving hugely beneficial for its growth. In 2022, more than half of U.S. shoppers were looking items up on marketplaces first. But now, nearly 30% are simply going to a search engine like Google, looking for the cheapest option to float to the top—and Temu provides just that. This is especially notable when looking at what consumers are dissatisfied with from different online shopping platforms: while Temu stands out for low quality and long delivery times, it wins in deals and discounts, which is clearly keeping it popular.
