A growing number of young couples aren’t entirely combining finances. A national survey revealed that nearly 70% of Millennials and 64% of Gen Z living with partners, married, or in civil partnerships said that they have separate accounts from their significant other, at least partially. The biggest driver is that most couples have trouble deciding exactly when or if they should combine finances into a joint bank account, and if so, how much they would put into the account. For these gens, there is also the debate of splitting it based on who is making more money and which income they are mostly using. On the other hand, some are waiting until they have to make a big purchase (buying a house, car, etc.) to combine accounts. (The Philadelphia Inquirer)
