Video games are on the verge of surpassing comic books as the top choice for film adaptations. Ampere Analysis’ recent report found that video game adaptations gained popularity last year, while content derived from comic books experienced a drop in interest. The recent analysis evaluated the top 10 newly released projects in 2023 and revealed that only one comic book adaptation (Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3) made the cut, showing a notable decrease from 2021. Comic book franchises were the clear leaders in 2021, (with Spider-Man: No Way Home being the last to surpass $1B at the box office), and some believe Marvel died with Avengers: Endgame. This means companies may have to start re-strategizing their approaches to the newly favored genre. (Kidscreen)
