The University of North Carolina System plans to block the use of popular anonymous social apps on campus. These apps are popular among younger users, especially students, but are often associated with negative behaviors such as bullying and harassment. Platforms like Yik Yak, Fizz, and Whisper emerge over and over within a small radius of college campuses, but they’re typically unknown to administrators. Even though these apps haven’t historically led to anything big, the harmful aspects are unwarranted by universities, and they always aim to ban their consumption. It should be noted, though, that they’ll only be banned from the university network, and students can continue using them on data or other Wi-Fi. (Tech Crunch)
