Colleges are shifting admission standards away from standardized test scores. Many institutions have moved away from relying heavily on standardized test scores like the SAT due to concerns regarding equity and access. Critics argue that standardized tests perpetuate inequalities by favoring students from privileged backgrounds and inadequately measuring students’ abilities and potential. But on the other hand, proponents of standardized testing contend that SAT scores provide valuable predictive information about students’ academic success in college and help ensure fairness and consistency in admissions decisions.
