Gen Z has coined terms like “loud budgeting” and “doom spending,” rebranding money management.This gen faces financial challenges such as a cost-of-living crisis and a daunting housing market, leading to anxiety about how much money they actually have—but call it “money dysmorphia.” With a lack of proper financial education in schools, young people are turning to social media, particularly TikTok, for advice on managing their finances. They’re being fed a variety of suggestions: “cash stuffing” to budget through cash only, “soft saving” to spend on life now, and more renamed ideas for existing financial practices. YPulse’s 2024 Trend Predictions report told you to expect more Gen Z rebranding of everyday life this year—if “girl dinner” could happen, anything can.
