Perhaps driving this, Google search results are increasingly being dominated by “low-quality SEO spam.” Researchers from different universities studied search results for 7,392 product-review terms across Google and other search engines over a year. The study revealed that spam sites are constantly trying to manipulate Google’s rankings and often succeed initially before being demoted. The researchers noted that this ongoing battle between spammers and search engines results in repeated patterns of review spam appearing and disappearing from search results as both sides adjust their tactics.
