The CD has gained new popularity among Gen Z music fans seeking unique ways to honor their favorite artists. According to Josh Friedlander, VP of research at the Recording Industry Association of America, young people are gaining an interest in connecting with music outside streaming. The revenues from physical music formats, such as CDs, have reached a ten-year high—and they’re increasingly being viewed as popular collectibles and a staple at artists’ merchandise tables. Younger fans are not limited to either streaming or buying CDs, though; they often purchase CDs as merch and still stream the music on their devices. YPulse’s Music report told you almost all Gen Z and Millennials listen to music daily, and though physical media is far from their top listening method, we know this gen loves to bring back “vintage” tech for the aesthetic.
