A college degree from an elite school may not push Gen Z’s career forward in the generative artificial intelligence era. Aneesh Raman, a vice president at LinkedIn, suggests that soft skills such as communication, creativity, and flexibility will be more valuable in the age of AI. He believes the ”shelf life” of a degree is shrinking and that adaptability is now the most important skill to have. YPulse data shows an increasing number of young people feel they don’t need a college degree to be successful and more than half of Gen Z believe work experience is more important anyway. However, while the demand for AI talent is growing, college degrees like those in humanities may still hold value due to their emphasis on soft skills that could be crucial in preventing workers from being easily replaced by AI.
