Ageing acts that can’t get radio time are going viral thanks to TikTok.

Dec 14 2023

Ageing acts that can’t get radio time are going viral thanks to TikTok. In 2008, Canadian indie band Mother Mother struggled to gain radio play or international recognition, but now they have over 8M monthly listeners on Spotify, surpassing the numbers of more acclaimed and similar bands like Arcade Fire. Because of TikTok, obsolete bands are gaining traction as unexpected songs are catapulted into a massive surge in popularity. TikTok continues to spark unexpected revivals for older songs and lesser-known bands—which is helping overlooked artists reach new audiences and achieve newfound success in the music industry. Old tracks have become a regular part of viral moments—just remember Kate Bush’s return to number one after 37 years thanks to fans of Stranger Things. (Guardian)
