People still care about young adult (YA) stories, not just YA authors.

Nov 28 2023

People still care about young adult (YA) stories, not just YA authors. This genre of authors argue that the reason YA has been considered a dying film genre since the Divergent series is because studio executives and filmmakers “tried to strip it of the central tenets of anxious people still being able to face their fears head-on.” Instead, young audiences are drawn to stories and book adaptations that don’t patronize them and are rich in diverse experiences and backgrounds. The box office success ofHunger Games prequel The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes illustrates Gen Z’s dedication to YA stories that allow for various interpretations and stay true to the “heart of the text.” Gen Z ranks reading as their second top hobby and YPulse’s Hobbies and Passions report shows reading is Gen Z’s fourth top hobby, proving they’re still very much invested in good books.
