Gen Z thinks sex and nudity in entertainment is unnecessary. According to a UCLA Center for Scholars & Storytellers study of 1,500 students ages 10-24-years-old, 44.3% of young people said that romance in the media is overused, 39% want to see more aromantic and / or asexual characters on screen, and nearly half (47.5%) said that sex “isn’t needed for the plot of most TV shows and movies.” These findings prove Gen Z is looking for “nomance” in the content they consume and would rather see more platonic relationships or friendships. YPulse’s TV and Entertainment report data shows that of all the various TV genres, Gen Z (13-22-year-olds) watch comedy, adventure, and drama the most while romance is much lower on their list.
