Converse just launched an upcycled sneaker collection. The shoe company is looking to combat the issue of overproduction / waste within their industry with the Upcycled Flannel Chuck 70, the latest addition to their Upcycled capsule collection. The top parts of the sneaker are made of post-consumer flannel material with help from Beyond Retro, a textile sourcing and recycler that Converse has worked with on their capsule since 2017. As part of this project, the brand has been able to produce two pairs of Upcycled Flannel Chuck 70s for each “preloved” flannel used. And they are aiming to increase the sustainability of the rubber parts of their shoes, with a target of using 10% recycled rubber material in shoes by 2025. YPulse research shows that Gen Z and Millennials believe the number one thing brands should do to help the environment is to make eco-friendly products at an affordable price. (Glossy)
