Nikes are still the top back-to-school sneaker, but other brands are gaining popularity. Stifel’s yearly “Back-to-School analysis of athletic footwear” shows that of the retail channels it monitored, “Nike styles were cited as the most popular by 88%,” but that number is smaller than last year. And though no other brand comes close to Nike, New Balance pulled in 7% of the most popular styles—which Stifel attributes to the brand’s sales in Foot Locker stores. Other brands like HOKA, On, and Crocs also impacted Nike’s decrease in overall popularity dominance. Still, YPulse data shows over and over that Nike is one of the top retail brands, if not the number one, amongst Gen Z, so a small drop is certainly not the end of their reign. (MediaPost)
