Despite backlash from the recent strikes, Netflix will hire an internal artificial intelligence manager. The streaming service giant, which has been under fire during the Writers Guild of America (WGA) and Screen Actors Guild – American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (SAG-AFTRA) strikes for underpaying its writers / actors and not regulating the use of AI, has ironically hired a product manager to “ramp up internal use” of AI. The job reportedly offers a salary from $300K-$900K and will require them to work on Netflix’s “strategic vision” for AI under the company’s machine learning platform, as well as oversee “user education” of the technology. While it is somewhat unclear whether this position will actually affect content production itself, it is still receiving backlash. YPulse research shows that while young consumers are still viewing AI in a positive light, they are also concerned about what the tech means for human jobs. (Mashable)
