Sizing in gender-neutral fashion seems to be a persistent problem. As gender fluidity is more deeply integrated into the fashion industry, there remains a complex hurdle: sizing. In theory, this category of clothing seems ideal, breaking down barriers between traditional male / female clothing, but in practice, it’s hard to dictate what the right size parameters should be since the clothing needs to cater to a wide range of body types. For example, the shoulder breadth, chest, rib, and hip measurements are drastically different in men’s and women’s clothing; and as one fashion designer puts it “the reality is that whether you’re shopping gender neutrally or not, not everything is going to fit everyone because every body is different.” YPulse’s Gender Blur trend report shows that Gen Z is more likely than Millennials to have purchased gender-neutral clothing.
