Gen Z is taking to social media to “live-quit” their jobs. As a consequence of the pandemic, many of today’s Gen Z workforce are quitting their jobs—but the kicker is that they’re taking to TikTok and other social media platforms to share videos of them resigning in real-time. The viral hashtags #quittok and #quitmyjob have a combined 431M views on the platform where creators post their phone / Zoom calls with their bosses as they quit their job. While these videos are humor-filled, the reason behind Gen Z’s resignation isn’t quite as funny: experts say that watching older generations experience work burnout is driving this young gen to expect more flexibility and work / life balance from their jobs and not necessarily settle like their parents did. YPulse research shows that Gen Z has no issue with putting themselves and their mental health first, with 52% saying their career isn’t the focus of their life, it’s just a job. (New York Post)
