Gen Z isn’t into climbing the corporate latter, but that doesn’t mean they aren’t go-getters. As this gen continues to enter the workforce, some are labeling them as “lazy” and “lacking ambition.” However, Gen Z isn’t subscribing to the label that is assigned to them. One Gen Z worker, who works full-time at Google, also works on the side as an influencer sharing her “corporate girlie” lifestyle with her 300K TikTok, YouTube, and Instagram followers, earning two to three times what she makes at her corporate gig. She explains that “I may be entry-level at my Google job, but at my off-time job, I’m like CEO of my own company.” According to a study from Global Minds in partnership with KRC Research, Gen Z is highly ambitious with 38% looking to be CEOs, compared to 18% of Gen X and 21% of Boomers, but they want to define what success looks like on their own terms rather than following the traditional corporate ladder. YPulse’s Employment & Career Goals report data shows Gen Z and Millennials say enjoying the job they do ranks at the top for what they consider very / extremely important to their future and career.
