A recent poll by Common Sense Media reveals a significant gap between parents and their children when it comes to embracing AI tech. The poll found that kids are more informed about ChatGPT compared to their parents, with 54% of students having heard a lot about it compared to only 30% of parents. Additionally, they found that children are using AI without their parents’ knowledge, as 50% of students reported using ChatGPT for school, while only 26% of parents were aware of their kids using it for educational purposes. This discrepancy highlights a broader trend where children tend to be ahead of their parents in adopting and comprehending the latest tech, making it challenging for parents to monitor and establish safety measures around their kids’ tech interactions. Nevertheless, both parents and students agree that regulations should be implemented regarding the use of ChatGPT, with 61% of parents and 51% of students supporting limits in schools until rules are established. YPulse’s AI Unpacked trend report data shows Millennial parents generally see AI as a tool of convenience and over half (53%) tell us they’ve used an AI chatbot than 42% of non-parents. (Axios)
