The majority of Gen Z house hunters would extend their budgets for a more sustainable home. YPulse’s Cause Conundrum report shows that price can often interfere with young consumers’ desire to live sustainably (especially when it comes to fashion), but that might not be the case when it comes to home-buying. According to a survey from Payless Power (which provides prepaid energy in Texas), “70% of Gen Zers said they’d be willing to go over budget for a house with green upgrades — with solar panels being one of the top choices.” Plus, both Millennials and Gen Z are 27% more likely than Boomers to buy a “green home.” The most desired sustainable features in a home are energy-efficient appliances, solar panels or LEED/Energy Star certification, LED lighting, and energy-conserving insulation. But most of the time, homes advertised as “green” can be sold on average for 180% more than traditional residences. (CNET)
