Gen Z is being dubbed “Generation Side Hustle” as many take on multiple jobs. Contrary to the Boomer belief that “nobody wants to work anymore,” Gen Z workers are actually super motivated—just when it comes to the work they’re actually passionate about. Because of that, more and more young workers in the U.S. are embracing the “gig economy” and side hustles, according to a report by Quartz. Data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics also shows that the number of people working multiple full-time jobs has trended up in recent years and hit an all-time high in August 2022, and a 2022 survey from the payroll company Paychex found that about half of Gen Z are employed at two or more places, compared with a third of Millennials and Boomers. But overall, this trend is partly due to the economic concerns of young workers, and the belief that the traditional nine-to-five working day offers little job security and doesn’t suit the changing generation’s lifestyle. YPulse data shows one third of young people (34%) are earning money from multiple streams of income and through various ways. (Business Insider)
