The Met Museum is venturing beyond its traditional collab boundaries by getting into fragrance. The Met is looking to inspire visitors by bringing art and beauty into their lives—and since fragrances have strong ties with memory, the museum believes it’s the perfect way to allow visitors to “time travel” and immerse themselves in different historical periods. The Met has partnered with Le Labo on a candle featuring Neo-Impressionist artwork as well as Harlem Candle Company to create two custom candles inspired by exhibitions. Most recently, The Met tapped smart home fragrance device Pura on six scents inspired by iconic spaces in the museum. For example, the Bamboo Forest scent, “which features bamboo, orchid, Chinese Eucalyptus and sandalwood,” takes inspiration from The Met’s Astor Court. YPulse’s Experiences report data shows that just about a quarter (24%) of Millennials and 16% of Gen Z say they’re interested in attending an in-person museum tour / exhibit unveiling event, but these experiential products could help draw their interests to the fine arts.
