Italy is considering a ban on artificially made food, which would make it the first nation to implement such a law. The new bill aims to prohibit synthetic food—especially lab-grown meat—to safeguard the country’s culinary heritage. According to the Minister of Agriculture, the new law would also prevent the “risk of injustice associated with synthetic food,” meaning cheap synthetic food versus high-quality, premium “real” food. Italians have high regard for the quality of their ingredients, and Gen Z and Millennials in the country have inherited this passion for natural food: YPulse’s research shows that 42% of young Italians only consume organic or all-natural food, the highest rate among all Western European countries.
