A new short film from Adidas promotes the need for women to feel safe while running outdoors—and claps back at a Samsung misstep. Last year, Samsung released their “Night Owls” campaign, which featured a woman jogging alone on the streets of London at 2 am. The ad drew an angry response, with critics saying it was insensitive to the dangers women face when jogging alone at night. Adidas, on the other hand, has released an ad that highlights the excessive measures women often have to take to feel safe on city streets, based on a study from the brand that found that 69% of women have taken specific precautions to feel safe, and that 98% have felt concerned about their safety during a run in the past. The ad is part of Adidas’ larger “Impossible Is Nothing” campaign, which aims to educate men on their behavior, help women feel safe, and drive change—and it’s being far more well-received than Samsung’s campaign.
