Weird fashion is one of Gen Z’s top trends right now—and brands are proving absurdity sells. MSCHF’s The Big Red Boot ($350) went viral for its cartoonish and abstract look and while Gen Z may not have been able to afford the look, it certainly grabbed their attention. Luxury brand Loewe recently debuted a runway full of hyper-surrealism with “grass sneakers (the original, runway versions were literally seeded and grown for 20 days), cubic tops, and pixelated trousers that look like they’re something out of Minecraft.” According to a Hootsuite study, only 18% of Gen Z say they are “interested in minimalist, logo-less looks” while “60% think that digital first-impressions are more important than in-person ones.” That being said, this gen is still buying ‘fits for the feed to make their online personas pop. YPulse’s Fits For the Feed trend report data shows 72% of young consumers agree: “Social media fashion is different than in-person fashion.” (Inc)
