Gen Z Latinos are all about the “Edgar cut.” One Texas barber says he gives roughly seven Edgar cuts a day, “most of them requested by younger clients ranging between 5th graders to high school seniors.” The “bowl-like cut with a line-up and tapered sides” is especially popular in the Southwest of America, but is not exclusively worn by Mexican Americans. In fact, one professor says the style mirrors some from Indigenous Native American tribes hundreds of years ago. However, the style has developed a stereotype around it, which he says is rooted in classism, “referring to the young men sporting it as lower class.” But despite the criticism, the style is only growing in popularity: the hashtag #EdgarCut has over 900M views on TikTok.
