Gen Z and Millennials have been very confused about their Instagram posts showing up on Facebook.

Mar 09 2023

Gen Z and Millennials have been very confused about their Instagram posts showing up on Facebook. Last year, in a pop-up message, Meta announced to Instagram users that their posts can be shared on Facebook, too. To make the pop-up disappear, many users unknowingly selected the blue button that allowed the merge without really thinking about it. Months later, Gen Z and Millennial Instagram users who have long been inactive on Facebook suddenly noticed an influx of notifications from distant family and old friends. Users who haven’t visited Facebook in years are expressing their annoyance about the shared posts between the two platforms, with one user saying: “I feel like the things that I post on Instagram are only really meant for the people who follow me. If it were on Facebook, it would feel really weird.” YPulse’s Social Media Monitor shows that while approximately the same number of Gen Z and Millennials use Instagram daily, there’s a larger disparity on Facebook: only 17% of Gen Z say they use Facebook daily compared to 56% of Millennials.
