Gen Z and Millennials are “soft saving” for retirement as a rejection to hustle culture. Millennial TikToker Tay Ladd (@TheCorporateDogMom) posts about living her “softest life,” and now “soft saving,” a trend pioneered by women of color, has been gaining popularity among young workers who are unsubscribing from hustle culture. A report from fintech company Intuit found that “Gen Z is taking a gentler approach to their finances” and while they’re still working hard, they’re prioritizing time for themselves outside of work. With over 10.5B views on TikTok, the “soft life” trend shows young people making time for candle lit dinners and bubble baths—and now Gen Z and Millennial women specifically are rejecting the “girl boss” mentality by “choosing not to save their money as aggressively and to focus on the present.” YPulse’s Mental Health report data shows that Gen Z and Millennial females say they are mentally exhausted the most.
