Instacart is jumping on the ChatGPT train with a new chatbot for the grocery app. As OpenAI makes the process of integrating its generative artificial intelligence software with outside apps easier, platforms are eager to make use of the trending technology. Now, Instacart is using the AI chatbot “to power a new search engine designed to respond to users’ food-related questions, such as asking for recipe ideas and ingredients, or healthy meal options.” The feature, which is set to come out later this year, will be called “Ask Instacart” and will provide auditory responses rather than listing a slew of search engine results, giving users direct interaction. The platform noted how a lot of planning goes into grocery shopping, from making the list to finding discounts, and bearing the “mental load” is topic buzzed about over on TikTok. Adding AI functions that provide convenience are a way for the tech to appeal to Millennials and older Gen Z. (WSJ)
